I've always struggled to use artistic expression as a means to express my faith. I'm not (for doctrinal reasons) comfortable painting a picture of some long haired bearded guy, and calling him Jesus. I feel a little safer painting hands.

Great earthy tones, rough hands, serious spikes, super message communicated here, no portrait needed. Have you ever considered painting an image of one of the fishermen, like Peter or James? You do great with the water and with people. I can see you doing a great close-up of Peter's face with this look of incredulity(sp) when called by Jesus. You could do this easily.
Beautiful. Worth thinking of. I can´t either think of Jesus as he is pictured by many f the "masters" He was after all a carpenter too.
wow this caught my eye!! Just terrific art here and this image is wonderful. Love your style.
Very creative I like it

I agree about the 'long haired guy'... I have always felt that faith is so PERSONAL - it's a relationship like 'love'. I think an image like this is more powerful, anyway. Beautiful in and of istself, and makes you think, too. Nice work.
Enjoyed viewing your work!
I see what you are saying about painting Jesus. You have great paintings.
Wow!! Mesmerizing. Speaks volumns on what those hands have been through over time.
this si wonderful and suggests an underpainting which stands best as it is... i love your portrait work too, brilliant expressions. r.
I am also an artist who creates pieces to draw attention to God. I recently created a pieces of Ruth and Naomi. Each panel represented their personal feeling in the midst of their personal struggle.
I think this is a very effective portrait!!
I know what you mean!....Powerful painting!
Greets dudes!
I just wanted to say hi :)
This is so beautiful. A lot of the paintings I see that attempt to depict our savior focus too much on his feature, what he looks like, ethnicity and so forth. I like this much better. It seems so personal and it had all sorts of things going through my mind when I saw this. wonderfully done!!!!
